This thesis examines urban campuses, and explores the design principles that make them successful. By comparing the layouts and designs of suburban campus models with those of school in urban conditions, one can begin to learn what ideas from either typology can be used to create a successful campus within an urban or semi-urban condition, like Old Town Alexandria. By using the Washington Alexandria Architecture Center as an example, the project develops a design proposal that would grow the current campus from a couple of buildings to a real successful urban campus, that has the potential to grow beyond its confined singular city block.

Key Bridge Marriott is a re-skin and renovation project for an 1970’s brutalist building. I was brought onto the team after an all glass re-skin proved to be too expensive. I came up with a few elevation schemes that utilized precast panels shown in the final renderings here.
*The renderings were outsourced and are not my work.

This 72,000 SF mixed-use residential complex houses 126 units across two building connected by an iconic bridge in DC’s historic Blagden Alley. The client, SB Urban, wanted to create an unprecedented micro unit project that places emphasis on the amenities and shared living spaces, responding to the ever-changing demands of the young and transient population of DC. This project was approved with no car parking at all.
I was selected early on in the schematic phase of the project to develop the design of the M street building, and seeing the documentation through the Historic Board approvals.
